 About Us

Well I am Ethiopian and together  with my husband we founded Abyssinian Beauty Products which is registered in Ethiopia and the United kingdom.
We believe in living a healthy life style which includes a great healthy diet as well as the use of oil base organic herbal skin care.

My husband is a very prolific gardener, a gift which he obviously obtained from his mum, who has a beautiful herbal flower garden

Above: Hi I am Selam and I am the heart and backbone of Abyssinian Beauty Products. I am the  Senior Soap Maker and the  Coordinator for the marketing of Abyssinian Beauty Products. I assist my Dad in formulating the wonderful range of natural herbal products at Abyssinian Beauty Products.

We are fortunate enough to have a team of creative, dynamic and highly qualified cosmetic soap makers from Ethiopia and the diaspora, who are dedicated to a vision of promoting natural, environmentally friendly, organic beauty skincare in Ethiopia.

Above: The vast majority of our soaps are made using the cold process. In this process the Oils and butters used to make the soap  undergo a process called saponification.

Saponification is a process that involves the conversion of fat, oil, or lipid, into soap and alcohol by the action of heat generated by the reaction with an aqueous alkali.

Saponification is an exothermic chemical reaction-which means that it gives off heat-that occurs when fats or oils (fatty acids) come into contact with an aqueous alkali, usually Sodium hydroxide. In this reaction, the triglyceride units of fats react with sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide and are converted to soap and glycerol.

Above: Once the oils and aqueous alkali have mixed and reacted, the mixture is allowed to react and then poured into the desired mold. The Soap mix is allow to cure for several weeks. This allows the soap mix to hardened and form your solid soap.

Above: The soaps are left to cure and dry for about five to six weeks. This is done on specially arranged racks in a dry area.

Above: Once dried and cured, the soaps can be kept at their original size or cut into smaller units for distribution to our customer

Ethiopia is blessed with an abundance of herbal resources. Almost all of the herbs and seeds used in our products are grown and produced in Ethiopia. Many of our oils and butters are imported from Ghana and Kenya, in particular Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and coconut Oil. Niger oil is produced in large quantities in Ethiopia and is used in a number of our oil products.

Natural herbs and supplements have been used for medicinal purposes since time immemorial. A 2004 World Health Organization (WHO) review established that Ethiopia led all nations with 90% of its population using traditional medicine for primary health care
